Book a Free In-Home ConsultationThe One Room Where Light Control Actually Costs You Sleep
A east-facing bedroom in Bergen County gets full sun before 6am in June. A west-facing one holds heat until ten at night. Add a streetlight outside the window, or a toddler who wakes with the first light, and the window stops being a design question and starts being a sleep question. Most bedrooms in North Jersey have one of these problems — and the fix is rarely the shade you would have picked on looks alone.
This is exactly why we bring the samples to you. A blackout fabric that looks completely opaque under showroom lighting can still glow at the edges once it is mounted on your window, in your wall colour, with your morning sun behind it. We measure the actual opening, check whether an inside or outside mount will close the light gaps, and hold the fabrics up at the window that is causing the problem. You see the real thing before you commit to anything.
What Works Best in a Bedroom
Most bedrooms come down to three choices. Which one is right depends on how dark you need the room, how cold that wall gets in January, and whether you want the view back during the day.

Bedroom Window Treatment Questions
What is the best window treatment for a bedroom?
It depends on how dark you need it. If you want true darkness, a blackout roller or blackout cellular shade with an outside mount will get closest. If you mainly want privacy and softer light, sheer or layered shades are usually the better fit. Most bedrooms we do end up as one of those three — we will tell you which at the consultation rather than selling you up.
Do blackout shades block all the light?
The fabric does. The gaps around it are what let light in. An inside-mounted shade always leaves a small reveal down each side, so if you want genuine darkness we will usually recommend an outside mount or a side channel. This is the single most common disappointment with shades bought online, and it is a measuring problem, not a product problem.
Are cordless shades safer for a child's bedroom?
Yes, and we fit cordless or motorised as standard in children's rooms. Corded window coverings are a recognised strangulation hazard for young children, and cordless lift systems remove the risk entirely. Motorisation is worth considering too if the window is behind a cot or a bed and hard to reach.
How long does a bedroom installation take?
The in-home consultation takes about an hour. Custom shades are made to your measurements, so allow a few weeks for manufacture. Installation for a typical bedroom is usually under an hour and we clean up after ourselves.
