For a door in daily use, something that stacks to one side rather than lifting out of the way — vertical cellular, vertical blinds, panel track or drapery. Roller and Roman shades work beautifully on a slider you rarely open, but on a door you use every day you end up raising and lowering it constantly, and that gets old fast. The honest answer depends less on the fabric than on how often the door actually gets used.

To one side, and choosing which side is one of the more consequential decisions in the whole job. It should stack over the fixed panel, not the operating one, so the glass you walk through stays clear. Where the wall runs out, we can stack split — half to each side — which halves the stack depth at the cost of a centre split down the middle of the view.

Not if it is measured properly, and this is exactly what a free in-home measure is for. Slider handles project further into the room than people expect, and a treatment mounted flat to the wall will foul on it every single time the door is used. The fix is either a deeper mount, a headrail projection that clears the handle, or moving to a stack that never crosses the handle at all.

Usually yes, but it is worth asking whether you should. A single twelve-foot panel is heavy, harder to keep level over time, and awkward to operate by hand. At that width we normally recommend either a split pair or motorization, and often both. It costs more up front and it is the difference between a treatment that gets used and one that stays where it was left.
