Living Room Window Treatment Questions
How do I stop glare on the TV without making the room dark?
Solar shades. They use an open-weave fabric that blocks the direct sun causing the glare while still letting daylight through and keeping the view. The number that matters is openness factor — a 3% weave kills more glare and shows less view, a 10% weave does the reverse. We bring samples so you can judge that against your own window rather than guessing from a percentage.
Will window treatments stop my furniture fading?
They will slow it considerably. Fading is driven mostly by UV and visible light, and a solar shade blocks a large share of both while it is down. Nothing short of a fully closed blackout stops it entirely, but the practical difference between an untreated west-facing window and a shaded one over a few years is very visible on a sofa or a hardwood floor.
What works on a big picture window or a wall of glass?
Wide openings are where motorization stops being a luxury. A twelve-foot shade is heavy and awkward to operate by hand, and anything above a staircase or behind furniture will simply never get adjusted. We also look at whether one wide shade or two paired shades will hang better — that is a measuring decision, not a catalogue one.
Can I keep the view during the day and still have privacy at night?
Yes, and it is the most common living-room brief we get. Sheer or layered shades give you a filtered view by day and close to an opaque panel in the evening. The alternative is layering — a solar shade for daytime glare with drapery over it for night — which costs more but looks softer and handles both jobs properly.
