A Shadowspec Serenity cantilever umbrella shading a family at a table on a brick-home patio

Serenity™

The one that suits most North Jersey decks. A single rotating cantilever that opens in three seconds and turns a full circle without moving the base.

8′–13′360°
Frames from $5,232
A Shadowspec Unity Duo twin-canopy cantilever umbrella over a poolside terrace

Unity™

One mast, up to four canopies. Where you'd otherwise plant three separate umbrellas — long dining runs, pool decks — this covers it from a single anchor.

A wall-mounted Shadowspec Retreat umbrella being opened beside a pool

Retreat™

Mounts to the wall and keeps the floor clear — balconies, narrow side decks, anywhere a base would be in the way.

Frames from $1,890

Oasis™

The classic centre pole through the table, built to the same standard as the cantilevers. The simplest way into the range.

Sizing

How much shade do you actually need?

The most common mistake is buying one size too small. A canopy has to overhang the table by roughly two feet on every side, or the shade is off the seats by mid-afternoon.

Fabric

Sunbrella and Recasens. Fourteen colorways.

Solution-dyed acrylic — the color goes through the fibre, not onto it. That's why it holds after five summers. Ten-year fabric warranty.

Mounting

Four ways to anchor it. One of them suits your deck.

This is the question that decides the quote, and the one homeowners never think about until we're standing on the deck. Which anchor you can use depends on the surface, the size of the canopy and how exposed the spot is.

Surface plate

Bolted to the deck or patio. Needs solid substrate underneath.

In-ground

Set into a footing. The strongest option, and invisible once finished.

Free-standing base

No drilling. Weighted base, moves if you need it to.

Wall bracket

Retreat only. Keeps the floor completely clear.

Umbrella, awning or pergola

We sell all three, so we'll tell you the truth.

Most people searching for patio shade haven't decided which product they want yet. Answering that here points you at our retractable awnings and exterior shades when those are the better fit.

Umbrella

Nothing attaches to the house. Moves with the sun, comes down for the season, works where there's no wall to mount to.

Retractable awning

Bigger footprint off the wall, shades the door and the room behind it. Needs solid wall to anchor into.

Pergola or exterior shade

Permanent structure, year-round. Highest cost, most involved install, best for a space you use every day.

Restaurants, clubs and hotels

Speccing shade for a commercial terrace is a different job.

Open-site wind exposure, a canopy opened and closed twice a day, replaceable parts instead of replacing the umbrella, and a quote covering more than one unit. Unity and Serenity are already specified into golf clubs, resorts and hotel courtyards, and Shadowspec builds a separate commercial range beside them — the SU2, SU4 and SU10.

Locally owned & operated

You'll deal with the owner. Not a call center.

I live here, I run this business, and more often than not I'm the one measuring your deck and setting the anchor. Shadowspec is new to our line — which means you get my full attention on it, and an honest answer about whether an umbrella is even the right call for your space.

Before you ask

The questions worth asking.

Will it survive a North Jersey winter?

The frame will — marine-grade aluminum and 316 stainless steel. We close the canopy and cover it for the season, and we'll show you how at handover.

What happens in high wind?

Close it. Every model deploys and closes in seconds by design, which matters more than any wind rating on a spec sheet. We'll specify the anchor for your exposure.

Do I need to drill into my deck?

Not always. Surface plate, in-ground anchor, free-standing base and wall bracket are all options — which one depends on the size of the umbrella and where you're putting it.

How long from order to install?

Currently four to six weeks. They're hand-built to order in New Zealand, so the canopy and frame you choose are made for your space rather than pulled off a shelf. We confirm the date in writing when you order.

What does one cost, installed?

Frame, fabric, anchor and installation are quoted together at your consultation, because the anchor is what varies. Financing is available through Regions Bank, including a 9-month same-as-cash option — see the terms.
