Three answers from the guide
Straight answers, with numbers
Cellular or roller for a bedroom?
Cellular shades trap air in honeycomb pockets, so they suit bedrooms and drafty windows. Rollers are simpler and come in more fabrics, but they insulate less. In sleeping rooms, ask for blackout either way.
What does a motor add to a roller shade?
On our recent Norman Soluna jobs, manual and cordless shades ran $349 to $1,147 per window. Motorized ones ran $824 to $1,398. Both are product only, before installation.
What should a written quote show?
The product line, size, fabric, lift and motor for each window, with installation on its own line. Installation typically runs $175 to $1,000 per job.

Most homeowners collect three quotes and still can’t compare them. One says $6,000, another says $9,000, and neither explains what is inside the number. I wrote this guide to fix that.

“For years I have used umbrellas on my deck to shield us from the sun. We have gone through over 10 in the last 15 years as they would blow over, get torn or rust up and not work great.
I found Made In the Shade and Jose was awesome. We installed 2 20’ awnings on the back of our house to cover the full length of the deck.
We are able to operate them with a remote or the app on the phone which makes it so easy to do. Also there are lights in the awnings that make it great to sit outside at night and relax.
Yes it is an investment but worth every penny.

How current are the prices?
Most prices come from jobs we wrote for New Jersey homes between April 2025 and September 2026. They are product prices, before installation and discounts. The solar, banded and shutter figures are typical market ranges, and the umbrella figures are dealer prices. Read all of them as ranges, not a price sheet. We review the guide every year.
Do I have to book a consultation?
